Short Track Racing is Back in 2025

ICX STXC is a new Short Track Racing Series taking place at the Indy Cycloplex. Aiming to bring MTB racing to the City of Indianapolis, this STXC race series serves as a training/development series for racers to hone their MTB skills. The STXC series will also take place on Marque Race Nights at the Indy Cycloplex, with racing taking place on the Velodrome and BMX track too. Food, Beverages, and Music will be available for all to enjoy during Marquee Race Nights at ICX!

The Goal: Provide STXC MTB racing for the greater Indianapolis cycling community.

This series is inclusive of all ability levels and will allow riders to self-select categories independent of USA Cycling categories to provide a chance to race against groups that are similar in skillset and fitness levels. Juniors to Masters, Collegiate and Elite, Men and Women, all are encouraged to race in the wave that presents them the best fit.

Race Day Schedule: (will be the same for all race days)

6:00pm – Junior Men and Women
This is for juniors dipping their toes into STXC racing for the first time.

These results will be posted at the Indy Cycloplex and on the Indy Cycloplex Website but will not be posted to USA Cycling's website. No USAC license required for Junior waves.

6:30pm – Intermediate Men and Women
This is for racers that have some STXC experience and looking for a little challenge. Also for 14–17-year-old juniors that are looking to challenge themselves, Collegiate B’s and C's, and racers that aspire to earn upgrade points for USAC categories

These results will be posted at the Indy Cycloplex and on the Indy Cycloplex Website and will be posted to USA Cycling's website.

7:00pm – Elite Men and Women
This is the fastest field of the evening. Local Pros and the top collegiate riders will race in this category. High level juniors and u23 riders should race in this category, as well as anyone else that is looking for a leg busting challenge on a Thursday night.

These results will be posted at the Indy Cycloplex and on the Indy Cycloplex Website and will be posted to USA Cycling's website.

The Course:

Utilizing the infamous Indy Cycloplex “Mountain” (ok, hill!) next to Cold Springs Road, the ICX STXC course will vary from week to week. The starting grid and finish line will be placed in the parking lot of the ICX, and racing will take place on and around the hillside utilizing some of the single-track MTB trails at ICX. Course direction will change from event to event, and different features will be included or removed for each event night as well. All STXC courses will NOT utilize the DS course at ICX, these STXC events are geared toward high-intensity single-track style MTB racing.

STXC MTB TRAIL SYSTEM

The northwest side of the Cycloplex property, on the hillside across from Cold Spring School and extending up into the wooded area above the Velodrome grandstands, is home to about one mile of bench-cut single track MTB trail. Installed in 2014 by an up-and-coming trail builder, the trails are used regularly by Marian University student-cyclists, Midwest Devo, and many community riders.

DUAL SLALOM COURSE

IMG_3385 copy.jpg

In 2020, the Cycloplex brought a new type of trail system to the grounds with the addition of a dual slalom trail system on the north side of the property, above and next to the Velodrome grandstands. At this time, the slalom trail is a work-in-progress but it is in need of riders and tires to dial in the surface.

There are a few areas draining poorly, we are working on those, so avoid the areas holding water when riding! we are also happy to have volunteers working on the course, contact us if you have questions or want to get involved.

RULES OF THE MTB TRAILS AT ICX

Trails outside of locked fences are open to the public at any given time, but please obey the following rules when enjoying the trails:

  • Helmets must be worn at ALL times.

  • For dual slalom, we strongly encourage long sleeve shirts and long pants be worn.

  • Do NOT ride any trails when raining or when the ground is muddy. This destroys the trails and makes it difficult for others to enjoy them long term.

  • Parking in the main parking lot only. Do not park alongside the road or anywhere in the grass.

  • Ride with your head up at all times - trails do overlap and cross each other. Be mindful of other riders.

While there is no fee to utilize any of our trails, we do accept any donations from the community and we funnel those donations into continued support and improvement of the grounds and trail system here. Those interested can access our donation page here.
